Structural Ceramics

Spectrum combines sophisticated test facilities and equipment with proven expertise in formulating and manufacturing ceramic components. Design processing for our structural ceramics includes SolidWorks, Pro/E and AutoCad. We have the ability to produce complex geometries via additional machining for ceramic body types that can meet all your mechanical and electrical product requirements.

Product Features

Processing Methods

  • Pressing up to 3" diameter and 2-1/2" thickness fired
  • Extrusion up to 2" diameter and 12" length fired
  • Tape casting/lamination up to 1/4" thickness fired
  • CNC machining of green or fired shapes
  • Finishing methods include glazing, tumbling, plating

Materials

  • Steatite - good electrical resistance, strength and temperature resistance; lower cost than alumina
  • Cordierite - excellent resistance to thermal shock due to low coefficient of thermal expansion; similar strength and electrical resistance properties to steatite
  • Alumina - most predominant structural ceramic material; higher wear resistance, corrosion resistance, strength and operating temperature than steatite or cordierite

Physical Properties

  • High wear and corrosion resistance
  • Temperature stability and strength
  • Low thermal expansion rates
  • Superior thermal shock resistance
  • Tight tolerance designs

Applications

  • Electronic/Telecommunications - insulators, waveguides, high voltage parts
  • Chemical/ Fluid Handling - valves, high pressure seals
  • Aerospace/Military - lightweight, wear resistant components
  • Medical - inert, miniature components for implantable devices
  • Industrial - tubes, rods, beads, bushings

Custom solutions available to meet a wide range of customer requirements
